These routes are cruised in alternating weeks and flexibility is possible.
This is YOUR cruise and so you can discuss with the Captain where you would like to stop (where mooring is possible) and how long to spend there. The routes below are purely indicative. We can advise you in advance, and the Captain can also advise you in detail when you're actually on board the barge.

MAP OF BASES AND ROUTES COVERED
When you're ready to make a booking, we can discuss which route might be possible on the date you want. Please note that as the year gets booked up, you will have less choice of routes, because it will depend where the barge is on the day you start, and where it needs to be at the end.
TRANSPORT AND GETTING TO THE SOUTH OF FRANCE
There are many airports and train stations and we can assist you with this. We can also organise air-conditioned minibuses or taxis from anywhere in Languedoc-Roussillon. Please contact us for a quotation.

HERE'S WHAT THE CAPTAIN HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE EXAMPLE ROUTES :-
|
ROUTE 1 - CANAL DU MIDI - CASTELNAUDARY TO NARBONNE VIA CARCASSONNE
|
The nearest airports are Carcassonne, Toulouse and Beziers.
Carcassonne is an iconic walled medieval city and has influenced many a French fairy tale, as well as elements in a German story. It is also said to be the inspiration for some of Walt Disney’s images in Sleeping Beauty.
Castelnaudary is famous for its Cassoulet and the home of the French Foreign Legion. Narbonne is a Roman town and has a wonderful gothic cathedral, museums and beaches.
We will pass through and may stop at Homps, Ventenac and Le Somail who all have wonderful canal side restaurants, local shops and caves du vin to stock up at. Homps has a life guarded swimming lake with man made beach and lakeside restaurant. Canoe hire is available here too.

|
ROUTE 2 - CAMARGUE & CANAL DU MIDI – SETE, BEZIERS, CARCASSONNE
|
The nearest airports in this region are Montpellier, Beziers and Carcassonne.
We also cruise from the southern end of the Canal du Midi, taking in the glorious inlands waterways where you can see pink flamingos in the right months. We go to Sete stopping at Vias Plage, Agde, Beziers, Capestang, Le Somail and Narbonne.
We also get to cruise through a tunnel at Malpas and a VERY low bridge at Capestang.
The area where we start is situated close to beautiful sandy beaches and bustling crusader ports. There is more sunshine here than anywhere else in France.
The Etang de Thau is famous for its oyster farming tables and pink flamingos. Agde is one of the oldest towns in France and has a circular lock with 3 exits. There are plenty of Caves du Vin and the prices suit every budget. Seafood is popular on the menu in this region.
|
|
ROUTE 3 - AQUITAINE REGION – TOULOUSE TO BUZET
|
The nearest airports are Toulouse, Bergerac and Bordeaux.
In this region we cruise on the Canal Lateral de Garonne. We go over several Roman aqueducts to include the The Agen Aqueduct. There is also a water park at Agen. Agen is known for its prunes!
Depending on river levels we can turn onto the River Baise or the River Lot where you can visit Condom with its famous almond flavour brandy. There are glass works at Vianne where you can participate as well as watch the experts.
The Abbey and the cloisters at Moissac are world famous. Aquitaine’s local delicacies include Fois Gras, wild mushrooms, truffles and wines from vineyards near Bordeaux. Toulouse is also famous for its very tasty sausages.
On the cultural side, a must see is the Place du Capitole and the Capitole building with its impressive huge paintings and sculptures. The city has some beautiful parks and cycling around is easy. There are plenty of graceful churches and stunning scenery bathed in corn fields and orchards.
