CANAL BOAT HOLIDAYS - GENERAL ADVICE ABOUT TRAVEL AND LOCATIONS
|
||||||||
GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR FRANCE
If you are coming a long distance, you will normally be flying into one of the French major international airports, such as:
Paris Charles de Gaulle
Paris Orly Bordeaux |
Toulouse
Lyon Saint-Exupery Marseille |
|||||||
From the main airports, you then have a choice of internal transfer flights to the nearest regional airport, or you could take advantage of France's excellent TGV high-speed train network to get closer to your destination. |
||||||||
An alternative is to fly to London Heathrow or Gatwick, and transfer to one of the London airports serving low-cost flights to French regional airports. The French regional airports are shown on the clickable map to the right. |
||||||||
CAR RENTAL : Naturally you also have the option of renting a car at your arrival airport and driving to the departure base of your canal boat. All bases have parking facilities, which vary from enclosed and covered secure parking, to open-air parking next to the base.
DETAILED LOCAL INFORMATION : As part of my service, I will send you detailed local travel information regarding how to get to your base of departure for your French canal boating holiday. This gives you information assuming you are within the region itself and is part of my free service to you.
NEED MORE HELP ABOUT GETTING TO FRANCE AND AROUND IT? If your needs are related to travel to France generally and travel from another region to your base of departure, then I have a paid special 'Concierge' service just for you! |

"Floating through the meandering canal under the canopy of the plane trees with beautiful yellow lilies lining the shore made for beautiful scenery. It felt like we were in an impressionist painting.
Our only mistake was not having more time.... we could easily have gone for two weeks.
Each day was an adventure but also filled with wonderful tastes. We travelled from Agde to Carcassonne and enjoyed every minute on the canal.
It is a trip of the lifetime and not to be missed. Yes, you can drive the road along the canal but living on the boat for a week was amazing!
At the end of each day we would moor and enjoy wine and cheese on the top deck and recount our adventures for the day! Do remember you are in France and enjoy operating on French time....easy and relaxed. "
