BEACHES, LAKES, AND RIVERS:

The villas and gites are only about 20 minutes from Languedoc's sandy mediterranean beaches to the south, and the fabulous lakes and rivers to the north.

Wonderful for those of you who love swimming in warm waters!

Pezenas: Historic and mediaeval Languedoc town
Lots to see and do, surrounded by vineyards, close to beaches!

Pézenas is the jewel in the beautiful Languedoc region of the South of France. The Michelin Guide's 'Les Plus Beaux Détours de France' calls Pézenas a "not-to-miss" town.

The well-respected UK newspaper 'The Independent' says "The antique town of Pézenas is one of the quiet glories of southern France".   (Read full article here.)   It's alive all year around, not just in the summer.

Most of our Villas, Gites, Hotels & Chateaux are actually in Pezenas
and you can see the locations here.

The Canal du Midi Hire Boats and the Luxury Cruising River Barges are on the Canal, just to the west of us.
There's a South of France general location map on my
'Travelling to Languedoc' page.

Pézenas is the perfect base from which to explore the local area - a beautiful mediaeval place with cobbled streets, bustling with shops, bars, restaurants, museums, etc. It has all the charm of a typical old French village, but with all the convenience and facilities of a busy market town.

It also has a long tradition of local 'artisans', so don't miss all the workshops and galleries!

See my video page - 4 different videos of this area with lots of ideas for activities!

HISTORY - The old town has streets dating back to the 1200's and we love just soaking up the atmosphere. Many famous people have lived here, from the great French writer Moliere, to the enigmatic Clive of India. This was also a centre for the Knights Templar of the Crusades a thousand years ago and you really should visit at least one of the sites of their fabulous churches.

ACTIVITIES - Long sandy Languedoc beaches (25 minutes), rolling vineyards (5 mins), rivers and lakes, and ancient volcanic mountains are all close by.

You can also visit the famous Canal du Midi, which runs all the way from Toulouse and finishes its journey at the Mediterranean just south of us. There are walking and cycling paths along the canal and some amazing sequences of locks where you can watch the boats slowly making their way down.

Swimming, walking, shopping, local history, cinema, theatre, tennis, golf, browsing the large local market, lazing outside cafe-restaurants... :) So much to do around here you shouldn't get bored!

It costs a lot more to buy a property in Pezenas than in a little village in the Languedoc, (and therefore villa rental prices are a little higher here), but we and my guests think it's worth it to have such a great location!

WHAT A CLIENT SAID:

"Pezenas is a truly charming medieval town, with a lovely atmosphere and lots of cobbled streets with many great restaurants and gorgeous little craft shops selling everything from handmade soap and art to textiles and wooden toys.

It was also a great base for discovering the wider area and a short distance from several great beaches. I could go on and on but I am afraid that Villa Henri will be booked out the next time that I want to visit - and I really hope that there will be a next time!

We went on a brilliant wine tour organised by Sara and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We visited 2 domaines and even though it was busy harvesting season, Sara was able to organise for us to speak with one of the wine makers who was lovely and who explained the process and allowed us to taste the wine at the early stages of productions."
