The barge's deck is enormous. Over 100 years old, this is a beautiful canal barge. You also have use of the interior salon, kitchen and WCs.

The perfect way to spend a day on the famous Canal du Midi. Relax on the historic barge and see the sights with a friendly Captain and his wife, enjoy a restaurant lunch in a canal-side village or have a picnic lunch, and return in a mellow mood having had a fun time!

On a 24m (80ft) long traditional canal barge.
 

THE ITINERARY - DAY-TRIP CRUISE WITH STOPS FOR SIGHTSEEING AND LUNCH

This is a personal cruise for 2-6 people.

One way or return cruises are both possible.

Start from near Agde, near Beziers, near Carcassonne, or near Toulouse.
(Depending on the date you choose.)

You will see some of the best sights on this part of the famous Canal du Midi. Because it's personalised, it's possible to request specific start/finish times, where to stop en route and for how long, and how long to stop for lunch. Or you can just let the Captain decide based on his experience of what people like.

Depending on the date of the cruise, you may go through locks, you may pass historic monuments, tranquil villages and ports, and you may also cruise part of a beautiful river intersecting the Canal du Midi, you may see wild horses and flamingos, you may cruise part of the Bassin de Thau. Whichever the route, you'll see a lot, stop for sightseeing, stop for lunch, and all with the assurance of a very friendly and experienced Captain!

Dates : Mar-Nov, by request and advance reservation only.
Duration : From 4, 6 or 8 hours, depending on what you would like.
Start time : Between 09.00 and 11.00, depending on you.
End time : 15.00 - 19.00  (3pm - 7pm), depending on you.


Lunch : Village restaurant OR Picnic On Board
On this cruise you will normally stop at a typical local restaurant. The set menu lunch at these restaurants usually costs about €15.00. What you choose to order is of course completely your decision and this is NOT included in the cost of the cruise. You pay for this direct to the restaurant in the normal way.

Or you can take your own picnic if you clear away and wash up!


Sightseeing stop
Guests sometimes want to get off the barge for some sightseeing. The Captain is happy to stop during your cruise so that you can do this.








 
Wine, champagne, soft drinks
This is a very personal cruise, so you can take your own bottles of drink on board and put them in the fridge, or you can buy drinks from the Captain.
 
Birthday or Anniversary Cruise, or other Celebration?
I'm always delighted to help when people are celebrating a birthday, wedding anniversary, or other special event! Please don't hesitate to ask me for special requests, such as a cake or champagne!!

THIS IS A PERSONALISED LUNCH & SIGHTSEEING CRUISE
ON A BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC BARGE FOR A SMALL NUMBER OF GUESTS.

(You're not confined to a small table all day on a tourist boat
with up to 80 other people!)

The barge is yours for the day - this includes the very large upper deck,
the large salon and kitchen below, and use of the WCs.

You are paying for the barge, the captain and crew, and for the cruise. You pay the restaurant separately for whatever you choose to have for lunch.
Or you can bring your own picnic if you promise to clear away!

"Shared" means I try to get other couples or small groups to agree on the same date, and you share the boat. There will never be more than 6 people, so this is a very personal cruise, not like a big tourist boat.

"Privatised" means the boat is only for you and no other guests can share it with you. You can charter the barge exclusively even if you're only one couple. Please tell me about your group and request a price.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL PERSONALISED CANAL CRUISE WITH LUNCH
  • LOCATION: (See map below.) Different start points are possible, between Cap d'Agde, Beziers, and near Carcassonne.
  • I can organise a minibus or taxi if required. Please ask me if you would like a quotation.
  • You can do a return cruise, or a one-way which has a small supplement to include taking you back to your vehicle - please ask me for details.
  • If 8 hours is too long don't worry. You can join the cruise for less time. However the price is the same as for 8 hours.
  • I'm the only booking agent for these cruises, which I devised as a result of so many requests from discerning clients. For years I've been looking for a Captain of a lovely barge who would offer something like this, and now I found one!
  • A reservation requires a non-refundable advance part-payment by credit card.
  • The rest of your payment is in cash when you arrive at the start of your cruise.
  • Prices include taxes. Any gratuity to the Captain (to be shared amongst the team who maintain, clean, and crew the barge), is at your discretion.

LOCATION
Your cruise boat can start from different ports. It navigates various parts of the southern end of the Canal du Midi and can also cruise one of the intersecting rivers. You will depart and return to the same port unless you pay for a one-way cruise.

1. Yes, it's more expensive than a big tourist boat for 90 people, but if you like a more independence then choose this Canal cruise.

2. If you want more of an experience than just having a short lunch or dinner cruise, if you want to see more of the region, then this is the cruise for you.

3. If you want to get off the boat for sightseeing, (and get off to have lunch in a canal-side village), instead of being stuck on the boat for 6+ hours, then this is the cruise for you.

4. If you want a friendly and accommodating Captain, then this is the cruise for you.

5. If you want some flexibility about your start/finish times, then this is the boat for you.

6. If you're celebrating anything, this is the cruise for you.

'QUE SERA LADIES!'

"We are 8 Australian ladies who had the pleasure of meeting Sara & Leigh (and of course gorgeous Max) while visiting the Pezenas area.

Activities Languedoc, which Sara and Leigh manage besides running their lovely villas, gave us the most amazing tours and took the hassle out of trying to organize ourselves.

In the few days we were in Pezenas they arranged a private boat with a beautiful meal down the Canal du Midi, a wine tasting and tapas evening at a nearby chateau under beautiful oak trees, a visit to another chateau with tour of vineyard and beautiful grounds with, of course, more wine tasting (as you do in France) as well as a beautiful luncheon in a pristine location in Pezenas with a guided tour from Leigh to give us the history of Pezenas.

As if that wasn't enough Sara & Leigh invited us to their home to be entertained by 2 lovely musicians around a candle-lit pool for more wine and delicious nibblies.

We all feel as if we have met the most amazing husband and wife team that truly care about taking care of others so if you want to have the time of your life contact Sara or Leigh they will become friends for life.

I know we may not see them until we visit France again but they truly touched our hearts and we will never forget them."
